Hozier

Hozier. Take Me To Church. A brief analysis of its lyrics. As a gay person, I do find this song offensive.
Because the banality that can occur in heterosexual sex is what gay people really needed to be uplifted and encouraged.
I actually can’t believe that the ‘magic” people felt about bashing (especially celebrities bashing) the Catholic church still thrives and is alive, hasn’t died away with Sinead O’Connor. I’m not supporting the Church’s views on homosexuality at all, however, the entire attitude towards the church in this song is completely without grounds, and is by an Irishman who knows not the teachings of his home church whatsoever. No proper instruction.

Wounded Artist

My grandfather was a lawyer and an admiral

I am not

My grandfather had a house, wife, and kids

I scrounge a lot

I’m a wounded musician

I take a lot of medication

I try to lose my inhibitions through them

Not something he had to deal with once

My grandfather was a lawyer and an admiral

I don’t use pot

My grandfather had degrees, a Saab, watches and suits

I don’t have a lot

I’m a wounded artist

So I can be very guarded

And then I start to yell a lot

I unleash hell on those who bother me

And in the war, he set people free

But not me, and not his family

My grandfather was a lawyer and an admiral

I am of a different lot

He was so high in regard

Things he had to deal with not once

Rather, they come to me

Even with all the shrapnel still in his back

for the rest of his life

My grandfather was never a musician.

My Late-Night Valentine (My Sullen Valentine)

My late-night valentine

Did you know you were mine?

Are you a little lopsided?

I showed up at your door

Bearing flowers and more

Everything felt bad

I was so sad

My late-night valentine

Did you know that I wasn’t fine?

Don’t be starstruck

You’ll just wind up in the dark

My late-night valentine

Do you mind

That I’m dry and torn in two

By women unlike you?

And I sit here

Dreaming of comfort

I dreamt that love would never die
